Trust and Identity Projects

GÉANT partners with the EC, national research and education networking (NREN) organisations and other institutions to bring about new service innovations and adoption on a global basis.

GÉANT currently manages the following trust and identity projects:

  • ​Development of an interoperable authentication and authorisation framework (AARC).
  • Representing the requirements of research and education in access and identity management (REFEDS).
  • GÉANT manages the development and expansion of eduGAIN around the world​.

AARC

Authentication and Authorisation for Research and Collaboration.
AARC is creating a common authentication and authorisation framework for research and collaboration communities; one blueprint architecture, one set of policies and one collection of training materials that should work for everyone. AARC is also working with research collaborations to pilot and improve specific technical and policy aspects.
GÉANT leads this, the second AARC project, which is an EC-funded project with 24 partners from NRENs, e-infrastructures, service providers and libraries.

The voice of research and education identity federations worldwide.
The REFEDS group represents the requirements of research and education in access and identity management, working with and influencing the direction of other organisations on behalf of its participants. REFEDs participants share an interest in developing access and identity management technology, policies and processes.
REFEDS is managed by GÉANT which provides secretariat support for the group.
