European institutions

For over 25 years, GÉANT has worked in close partnership with the European Union (EU) to advance research, education and innovation, as coordinator of projects co-funded by European institutions and National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) in Europe and worldwide.

GÉANT’s long-standing relationship with the EU has benefited research, education, and innovation around the world for over 25 years, as the coordinator of projects co-funded by the EU and National Research and Education Networks in Europe, and by those in other world regions.

For as long as GÉANT has existed, it has supported European priorities. Today, this means Security (secure communications and access frameworks to research and education institutions), Prosperity and Competitiveness (Digital Decade and the 5th freedom, European Research Area) and Democracy (Digital Rights and Principles, and access to education including remotely).

Through its primary collaboration with Directorate-General (DG) CNECT via the GÉANT project, along with DG INTPA, DG MENA, and other bodies of the European Union, such as the European Investment Bank, GÉANT provides the backbone of research and education data transfer, access solutions and associated services for researchers and educators at a European and global level.
